2 Stars. After being diagnosed with plantar fasciitis (pain in the sole of the foot, particularly in the heel and back arch areas) which is likely caused by over-pronation (feet leaning inwards while you walk) I have been looking for a good insole to hold my heels in place and support my arches during exercise and any time I am on my feet. I recently discovered these and was eager to give them a try since they seemed to be a bit closer to custom-fitting than some of the other off-the-shelf models out there (true custom means expensive). Overall, my experience has been disappointing and I have returned these insoles in favor of the much superior Superfeet brand product. The Sof Sole Fit insoles are designed around a firm nylon heel cup/arch support with a soft overlay where your foot touches. In theory it will stabilize your heel position and hold up your arch while cushioning the footbed. This product is designed in several variations to fit different arch heights. My first pair of these was defective, severely so (two points deducted just for that). The glue holding the cushion footbed to the nylon heel cup lost its grip, and the heel cups came loose on both feet. For a while I was noticing that they squeaked like crazy when I first put my shoes on, and this was because the cushion was moving around over the heel cup. When I finally discovered this I had to go bring them back to the store. For all the technology that goes into these, you'd think they'd pay more attention to something as simple as gluing the two pieces together well. The fact that this happened on both feet shows that they really have a problem. But assuming this is one defenctive pair and others may not do this, here are the rest of my thoughts...This insole is better than nothing. It does what it claims to do - holds up the arch and cups the heel - somewhat. Unfortunately the foam overlayer is very stiff and flattens out after not much use, reducing the feeling of cushiness. The arch also didn't feel firm enough for my liking, losing some of the strength of support as it compressed over (not much) time. I got the "neutral" arch which is medium volume but I felt like my arches were not supported solidly enough. Certainly not worth the $40 price tag I sprung for. I also only used them for walking, and I can't imagine what the wear & tear of running would to do these.Fortunately there is a much better product out there which I mentioned earlier in this review. The Superfeet brand makes insoles at a comparable price point which provide everything this insole does not. They truly support your arch (especially the green variety) and cup your heel, with a high density foam overlay that has outlasted multiple pairs of shoes for me while still providing solid support. Superfeet are one of the few insole types that reduce foot pain for me (I was hoping to add to this list with Sof Sole which is why I tried the product I am reviewing here). Spenco also makes some good products which work similarly (their arch cushion is great in my tennis shoes) and also rank higher than Sof Sole in my humble opinion. So overall, this product is not a good value and I do not recommend spending your money on it. If anyone from Sof Sole reads this, before you go selling high-tech products please try to get the basics (gluing the pieces together well) right.

I have low to medium arches and these work well for me. I use them in my Merrell Ventilators for everyday use.

I had (still own) medical orthotics. They never felt right and didn't solve my issue with not enough arch support. I use these in sport shoes and mocs. They are probably too wide for dress shoes, but I don't wear those. I was using SuperFeet off-the-shelf green for a few years and they worked well, but they had to be trimmed to fit--not a big deal. When I needed another pair, I was told that they had been acquired by Sof Sole and so I bought this pair. This size fits my 8 1/2 shoes great. A full sole insert works better for me than a half sole (the medical orthotics) and these were even better than the SuperFeet. I get shin splints without an insert, so I can tell very quickly if they are working or not--these work. I tried on the next support level up and that was too much for me.
